Energy Star 3.0 & 3.1 checklists revision 8
On July 1st, the EPA released version 8 of the Energy Star for Homes Checklists. This revision is intended to simplify and streamline the checklist process. Most of the checklist items have remained the same, others have been combined or modified and a few deleted as being unnecessary. Builders will have the choice of having their homes certified under revision 7 checklists until July 1, 2016 when revision 8 checklists will become mandatory.
Below are links to Energy Star videos explaining the new version 8 checklists and the checklist downloads, we recommend you take the time to review the videos. We think you will be pleasantly surprised at the changes:

Energy Star Checklists - revision 8
What’s old (Energy Star 3.0/3.1 revision 7)!
What’s gone!
What’s new (Energy Star 3.0/3.1 revision 8)!
The process to achieve Energy Star Certification remains basically the same as previous versions, however, the HVAC Checklist has been split into two different checklists. The HVAC Design Report is completed by the HVAC Designer & submitted to the Rater prior to the build.
The HVAC Commissioning Checklist is required to be completed by an Energy Star accredited HVAC contractor but is to be retained by the contractor for documentation purposes. It is no longer collected by the Rater unless by request.
Manual J, D & S calculations will no longer be collected by the Rater as they are part of the HVAC Design Report. Room-by-room balancing reports are now an Energy Star recommendation but no longer a requirement.
Also, the Builder needs to complete a water management checklist for each build but it is to be retained by the builder for documentation purposes. It is no longer collected by the Rater unless by request.
